Impact & transparency

Here are the books. Read them before you give.

We are a young, small charity asking you for money. The least we owe you is a plain account of what we raised, what we spent, and who decides.

What the numbers mean

A small balance sheet, on purpose.

  • Every dollar of our FY2024 revenue came from individual contributions and grants — we hold no investments and run no fee-based programs.

  • Our American officers, the President and Treasurer, serve without compensation. Our Secretary, Nadeem Shehzad, receives an honorarium: he is the co-founder who runs the clinic in Delhi, so that payment reaches the work rather than sitting in US overhead. The amount is disclosed in full on our Form 990.

  • We have no American office and no fundraising staff. Overhead is deliberately minimal so that the overwhelming majority of what we raise reaches birds in care.

  • Our filings are public. The complete Form 990-EZ is available from the IRS and mirrored on ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer.

  • We deliberately carry a reserve into the following year. A clinic that has to stop admitting birds because a grant arrived late has failed at exactly the wrong moment.

Where it lands

Dollars in New York, medicine in Wazirabad.

Our grants go to Wildlife Rescue in Wazirabad, Delhi, India, a facility that has received more than forty thousand birds since 2010.

Medical consumables

Antibiotics, analgesia, anaesthetic gas, fluids, sutures and dressings — the recurring cost of treating thousands of birds a year.

Surgical and diagnostic capacity

Imaging, laboratory and surgical equipment, its servicing, and the consumables each procedure consumes.

Care through to release

Food, aviary maintenance and the weeks of flight conditioning between a successful surgery and an actual release.

As a US 501(c)(3) we retain full discretion and control over the use of our funds. Grants are made against a documented request from our partner and reported in our annual return. We do not act as a conduit for earmarked transfers to a foreign organisation.

Governance

Three directors. Two of them unpaid.

  • Julie CollinsPresident
  • Nadeem ShehzadSecretary
  • Luis PerezTreasurer & Acting Secretary

The current officers of the corporation. Our President and Treasurer serve without compensation. Our Secretary, Nadeem Shehzad, receives an honorarium — he is the co-founder who runs the clinic in Delhi, so that payment reaches the work rather than sitting in American overhead. It came to $13,250 in FY 2024 and is itemised on our return.

Our most recent return covers FY 2024 and so lists the officers who served during that year, not the current board.

We are also registered with the New York State Charities Bureau as registration No. 51-02-33, which places us under the supervision of the state Attorney General and requires a CHAR500 filing every year in addition to our federal return.
